Schwarzer: We must keep hold of Hodgson
Mark Schwarzer has urged Fulham to keep hold of boss Roy Hodgson, reportedly a target for Liverpool, following his success at Craven Cottage.
Having kept Fulham in the Premier League after a disastrous start to the 2007/08 campaign, Hodgson has improved his side on a shoestring budget and is now preparing to lead the Cottagers into their first major European final later this month when they meet Atletico Madrid in the Europa League climax.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Hodgson, and Schwarzer reckons that winning the Europa League could see the 62-year-old head-hunted by some of Europe's top clubs.
He said: "Would winning the Europa League persuade him to stay? I don't know, it might work the other way.
"Whenever there's success, whenever someone has achieved what our gaffer has in the last few years, he's always going to be linked with other positions.
"Obviously he's had a lot of help from everyone else together - but, inevitably, he's the man in charge and he makes the decisions.
"He's been extremely successful and we just hope as players and as a club that we can hold on to him as long as possible.
"I think it's a truly remarkable season and the manager, for me, without a doubt is the Manager of the Season."
Fulham are preparing to face Atletico Madrid in the showpiece in Hamburg, but Schwarzer insists that Hodgson's men are still focused on the league as they have a chance to secure a remarkable top 10 finish.
"We still have two games left in the Premier League and then we have to go about the small job of trying to win the Europa League," added the Australian keeper. "It doesn't get any better than this."
