Mancini urges fans to back Tevez

Roberto Mancini has urged Manchester City fans to get behind wantaway striker Carlos Tevez as his team chase three crucial points at home to Everton on Monday night.

Tevez's transfer request has dominated headlines for the past week and the cancellation of the majority of the Premier League fixtures at the weekend, including all those featuring the other title contenders, has only shifted more focus onto Tevez's City return at Eastlands.
City skipper Tevez last played for the club on December 4, scoring in the 1-0 win over Bolton, before missing the victory over West Ham through suspension and the trip to Juventus due to a personal holiday and the fact Mancini took an understrength squad to Turin.
Mancini will select Tevez, whose adviser Kia Joorabchian has stated Tevez will give his all for City while his future is determined, but all eyes will be on how the Argentine handles his first match back, how the City fans receive him and whether Mancini decides to take the armband away from the talismanic striker.
Reports indicate Mancini will strip Tevez of the captaincy and either hand it back to Kolo Toure, who led the team last season, or pass it to Vincent Kompany in a bid to take the team forward. But the City manager is hoping the supporters will not get caught up in the Tevez situation and urged them to simply cheer their side to victory.
"We must forget all about this with Tevez because we must focus on the next game," Mancini said. "It's important we are focused on Everton and the supporters are focused on Everton, nothing else, because the next 20 days will be very important. Hopefully, the fans can continue to support the team like they have in other times."
Mancini is confident Tevez's genuine love of the game will shine through and see him performing at his best despite being unsettled.
"Carlos is a football player," he said. "He loves football and he plays like when we were young in the garden. It's the same in training or in a match - I don't think he will be different."
