Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes upbeat despite losing Bastian Schweinsteiger to injury

The experienced  Germany international broke his callarbone  again Napoli in the Champions League in midweek, but the trainer has faith in his backup midfield options.Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has admitted that losing Bastian Schweinsteiger to injury is a massive blow to the Allianz Arena outfit, but he has faith in the players who will deputise.

The Germany international was stretchered off in the Bundesliga team's 3-2 victory over Napoli in the Champions League in midweek, and it has been diagnosed that the 27-year-old has broken his collarbone.

With the Kolbermoor-born midfielder on the sidelines for at least six weeks, Heynckes recognises the player's unavailability as less than ideal.

"Losing him is a big blow," the ex-Bayer Leverkusen trainer told the club's official website.

"He was in peak form, and he's one of our top personalities.

"He's doing relatively well. Obviously, he's upset at the long lay-off, but he was still in good spirits, because he's an optimistic guy," the 66-year-old continued.

The likes of David Alaba and Danijel Pranjic may be called upon to fill the hole left by Schweinsteiger's absence, and Heynckes has confidence in the depth of his squad.

"This season, we've already had to cope with losing a world-class player like Arjen Robben, and up to now we've done very well," the coach insisted.

"It is time to call on the depth of quality in the squad, and I'm convinced that whatever I choose to do will work out well."

The Bundesliga leaders travel to take on Augsburg on Sunday, and will look to maintain their four-point cushion at the top of the division.
