Wenger backs Park to shine
Arsene Wenger says Chu-Young Park will soon start showing the talent that convinced Arsenal to sign him during the recent transfer period.
The South Korean joined the Gunners from Monaco in August and has struggled to feature consistently within Wenger’s first team.
The 26-year-old was handed his first Champions League game for Arsenal in Tuesday’s goalless draw with Marseille.
He also caught the attention of his manager with an impressive display and maiden Arsenal goal against Bolton in the Carling Cup last month.
But his performance midweek lacked the quality shown in the game against the Trotters, but this has not deterred Wenger from backing the striker.
“I think he played a little bit inhibited on Tuesday,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website.
“His real game was against Bolton and on the night against Marseille I think he was a bit fazed by the pressure.”
“You will see the real Park very quickly. We are relying on him in January but I have plenty of confidence in him.
He will show how good a player he is.”
“He is quick, intelligent, mobile, a good finisher and many of these aspects didn’t come out on the night. He will be a good player for Arsenal.”
